Schaub and Bernstein (T 17) 2018 C Worlds Champions

2018 C Worlds
Delavan Lake Yacht Club, Delavan Lake, WI
October 6 & 7
Maxinkuckee’s Joe Schaub and Elizabeth Bernstein (T 17), with their third crew Emily Cameron, rolled into the final day of racing at the C Worlds winning three of four races on Saturday. According to Liz, Saturday was, “cool and cloudy (un)til the last race when the sun came out. Winds were 8 – 12 (knots). Some took thirds (crew) as (wind) was up and down Wisconsin style…”
Local sailor Mark Hetzler (D 3) began the last day of the C Scow season in second place at the Worlds. Fellow LDYC sailor, Ed Claire (D 21) was knotted up with Lake Geneva’s Erick Youngquist (I 113) in third position. Following the top four boats there were six teams separated by only three points hitting the starting line on Sunday.
With a slight chance of rain in forecast, winds were projected to be 12 knots or better. Two races were completed, allowing sailors one throwout score, Sunday morning. Mark Hetzler did all he could, scoring two – one in the final races, to reel in the team of Schaub, Bernstein and Cameron. And 2018 C Nationals Champ Peter Keck racked up two third place finishes to make the biggest jump in the standings on Sunday. In the end, Schaub continued sailing fast in the clutch earning a final day one – two and slammed the door on the fleet to bring home the beautiful DLYC C Worlds Championship trophies. A great ending to a fantastic 2018 C Scow sailing season!
Congratulations to all the sailors, volunteers and race committee for a memorable 2018!
