Brett Hatton (SL 54) wins the Fenton Fall Regatta

Skipper Brett Hatton and crew Kristi Steketee of Spring Lake won the weekend at the annual Fenton Fall Regatta hosted by the Lake Fenton Sailing Club. The wind directions on Saturday required the race committee to set “figure 8” courses challenging the skippers and crews to manage the course requirements but more importantly it also allowed everyone to let their C Scow do what their boats do best…REACH! Much fun was had as the fleet sailed nearly all day in light to moderate winds in warm sunny conditions.
The fleet proved to be competitively well balanced as four different skippers won races on Saturday (Hatton, Keenan, Litzbarski and Lanka) with Hatton and Litzbarski going into Sunday tied (Hatton holding the tie breaker).
Saturday night, the Lake Fenton Sailing Club treated competitors and friends to a incredible steak dinner on a calm warm evening on the shores of Lake Fenton.
Sailors woke up Sunday to very calm conditions. The Race Committee waited patiently until a Southeast wind filled the lake and, just before cut off, a long windward-leeward course was set that would determine the who would be the Champ. And, rallying from a mid fleet position after the fist mark rounding, Hatton and Steketee reeled in the Litzbarski and the rest of the front runners by the bottom mark and eventually passing everyone on the final leg.
Thanks to all the volunteers at the Lake Fenton Sailing Club for hosting another a great event!
